1940s Country Home in Quebec, Canada
Hi, I'm Stephen. I have an old 1940s country home in Quebec that has never been electrified. Years ago, it used to be rented to the film industy's producers and actors but today needs considerable sprucing up. It is fed by spring water from an adjacent mountain, is located on a spring fed lake and 2 kilometers in the woods. The house is self contained, with enough room around the lawn to grow vegetables and can sleep 14 comfortably! It's essentially self sufficient; except for the fact that I need to purchase wood (which if the adjacent land that will come up for sale, is acquired, there's enough for many years to come) and propane gas, which could be done away with if electricity were to be generated in whatever way.
What I had planned as an expansion to the existing kitchen was a "growing room" that would incorporate a composting system, auto water and nutrition for plants. On what is presently the back of my home, I dreamed of extending a glass green house above and below grade. Above was to be a working office space with ability to open in good weather, and below an extended bathing area that would double as an entertaining, garden, solarium, sun room, which in the winter would incorporate water hydration, plants, sunshine and triple theropane insulated windows, that might be made out of materials allowing various degrees of the sun's rays.
Property values here are relatively low in comparison to the US or even the Canadian west coast. The adjacent about 20 acres might be acquired for less than 100K. The cash and the people, however, would have to manifest in order to make these speculations a reality.
I'm open to ideas of what might occur in this very special environment.
